2001 – Nicholas Taylor, Oboe, Interlochen Arts Academy (Green Bay, WI)

Nicholas Taylor is currently a junior at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan.  He presently studies oboe with Daniel Stolper, having previously been a student of Howard Niblock at the Lawrence Conservatory in Appleton, WI.  In 1998, Nicholas was the winner of the Green Bay Youth Symphony Competition.  He was accepted in the Wisconsin State Honors Band in 1999 and the Wisconsin State Orchestra in 1999.  He has performed with the Green Bay Civic Symphony, and the Milwaukee Symphony.  Nicholas, son of Steven and Christine Taylor, is from Green Bay, Wisconsin.  After graduation, he plans to continue his music education at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Where Is He Now

After graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Nicholas attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he received degrees in oboe performance and music history.  A student of Richard Kilmer, Nicholas was a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonia, and a frequent freelance oboist in the Rochester area.  He has attended music festivals at Le Domaine Forget in Quebec, the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in British Columbia, and the Banff Centre in Alberta.

Nicholas is currently a PhD student in historical musicology at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington.  His interests include the music of J. S. Bach, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Benjamin Britten. 

Nicholas has also received a number of awards, including the Fine Arts Award in Oboe from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Harry John Brown Award from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and he is a two-time recipient of the Cultural Diversity Award from the American Musicological Society.
